Retina is the innermost light sensitive layer of the eye which captures the light that enters your eye and helps translate it into the images you see.

It is very important to have a regular retina examination as there are various conditions seen affecting it, like

• Myopia
• Diabetic retinopathy
• ARMD
• Hypertensive retinopathy
• Vaso-occlusive diseases. Etc

Any damage to the retina can cause diminution of vision. Thus, timely intervention is necessary to prevent permanent loss of vision. Lasers, intravitreal injections, surgery are various options available for the treatment.

How to check the retina?

Typically, dilating drops are instilled into your eye after the preliminary check-up. These drops increase the pupillary size of your eyes temporarily, allowing for easy visualization of the entire retina. The drops take anywhere between 30 -45minutes to produce the dilating effect. However, these drops cause blurring of vision temporarily. Their effect lasts for around 3-4 hours, during which near work and driving maybe difficult.
